Over 42 million people suffering from fatal disease of Acquired Immnuodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) across the world. There is a dire need for creating awareness among the people about the disease.
Speakers stated this at a seminar organised by AIDS Prevention Association of Pakistan (APAP) here on Saturday. The seminar was held to commemorate the world's largest grassroots AIDS event 'International AIDS Candle Light Memorial Day' with the slogan 'Turning Remembrance Into Action'.
An old global campaign involving over 3,000 communities in 86 countries dedicated to mobilise individuals for the International AIDS Candle Light Memorial.
WHO, Action Aid Pakistan, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), National Trust for Population Welfare (NATPOW), Punjab Aids Control Programme and UNAIDS sponsored the event in which speakers highlighted the causes of the disease.
They said that AIDS spreads because of HIV virus, which causes death. Lack of appetite, reduction in weight, pneumonia, high fever, are the symptoms in initial stage of the disease.
They advised the people to lead healthy living, restrict sexual relations with life partner, use disposable syringes. There is no cure for this disease except precautionary measures.
