ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday filed a complaint with Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) against television channels for airing news about purported third marriage of party chairman Imran Khan.

A PTI delegation comprising party’s media cell met with Pemra chairman Absar Alam at the regulatory body’s headquarters and handed over to him a formal complaint, seeking action against TV channels for airing false report.

A statement issued by Pemra said the complaint filed by the PTI has been forwarded to Council of Complaint for hearing, adding that the council will meet on July 15, and action as per law will be taken if proved true.

On Tuesday, media reports began to surface regarding the World Cup winning skipper tying the knot for the third time. It was reported that Imran Khan has married Maryam, who is apparently sister of Bushra, a daughter-in-law of Maneka family.

Reports mentioned that Bushra is Imran Khan’s ‘spiritual guide’ and wife of Customs Officer Khawar Farid Maneka.

Khan on Wednesday lashed out at the media, calling them “unethical” for reporting false news of his third marriage.

“Unethical of media to spread false news of my marriage based upon absolute lies . Had that happened in UK heads would have rolled,” he said in a tweet.

“Women pics shown whom I neither know nor ever met. Such disinformation is irresponsible & shows a collapse of moral & ethical standards.”
