Singapore bunker fuel prices rise

09 Jan, 2005

Singapore bunker prices rose, tracking higher cargo values, traders said on Friday. Bunker fuel of 380-centistoke (cst) grade was pegged at $169-$171 a tonne, up $9 from the previous day as the premium to cargo levels improved by $1.38 to $6.00 a tonne. Two 650-cst cargoes that arrived over the past week from the Red Sea port of Yanbu was found to have substantially high sodium content of above 500 parts-per-million.
"The sodium problem has led to some supply tightness, leading to higher premiums as some sellers could not receive their cargoes on time and are unable to supply," a Singapore-based bunker supplier said.
