Clifton Aquarium to be reopened in 6 months

02 Apr, 2005

The City District Government, Karachi (CDGK) will open Clifton Aquarium for the public within the next six months. It has remained closed from the past six years. City Nazim's Co-ordinator, Abid Ilyas, said that the pillars of the Aquarium had gone weak due to leakage in the pipelines. The KMC made an estimate of Rs 60 million for revival, but due to non-availability of funds the process was stopped.
DDO Aquarium Ismail Shakir said that the Aquarium would have more than 100 types of fish comprising both sea and plain water varieties, including octopus, turtles, sea urchin, starfish, seahorse etc. The Aquarium would be centrally air-conditioned and one pond would be built particularly.
Work at Landhi-Korangi Zoo-Aquarium is also in progress, which would also be opened for the public in about six months.
