Pakistan Steel posts record production

02 Apr, 2005

Hot Strip Mill of Pakistan Steel Karachi set all-time high production record in its 22 years history by producing 67,108 tonnes of HR products in March 2005. The plant, established in 1983, is only one in the country producing hot rolled coils. Unfortunately, in its entire life it was never subjected to capital repair, which usually becomes due after every two years running. Resultantly, its all automation apparatus are non-functional warranting immediate attention.
The dilapidated state of plant notwithstanding engineers, technicians and workforce working in different shifts even at times, working beyond call of duty, set new production record.
Chairman Pakistan Steel Lieutenant General Abdul Qayyum, addressing jubilant workforce of HSM, commended their endeavours for achieving this distinction. He advised the employees to work more hardly and devotedly for sustained production results.
In view of excessive supply of HR coils in the market by Pakistan Steel during March, margin of "Own Money" fell down considerably.
The BF's were operated at 99.0 percent of design capacity level for period July-March in spite of the fact that various operational problems were experienced and subsequently overcome through dedicated efforts of management and staff in March 2005.
