Government urged to lessen financial burden

02 Apr, 2005

Present government has guided the country towards economic stability and all economic indicators show positive signs but the people were not given due share of economic growth, said FPCCI former President Tariq Saeed here on Wednesday. "Government should take immediate measures to decrease the burden of common people. Prices of essential commodities should be brought down by decreasing taxes", he said while addressing a reception hosted by the Business Group of Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) here at a local hotel.
A large number of businessmen, industrialists, business leaders and members of RCCI attended the reception.
Tariq Saeed highlighted the need for an interest free economy and asked the government to take appropriate measures to introduce an interest free economy in the country. "Business community should also help government in this direction, and primarily it should make their own system riba free", he added.
He called upon the business community of Pakistan to take part in the upcoming World Islamic Forum in Malaysia in order to learn much about the Islamic business and economic system. Tariq Saeed, who is group leader of Businessman Panel of FPCCI, lauded the role of CBR Chairman Abdullah Yousuf and said he played an important role in the economic stability and growth in Pakistan.
His trader friendly policies have restored the confidence of business community on the government and tax system of the country.
In his welcome address, Business Group President Suhail Sethi called upon the government to take serious note of the disastrous impacts of price hike and said if the situation was not given proper consideration the country might plunge into disorder. He said the business community was the backbone of the country's tax and economic structure.
"We are paying taxes and filling the government treasury, but in return no facilities are being given to businessmen or common people", he maintained. Sethi called upon government to provide better civic and communication facilities to the people and take stock of the worsening law and order and traffic in Rawalpindi.
