Symposium on conservation of Mahasheer from April 25

A two-day symposium on conservation of Mahasheer species of fish will be held at the Bukhari Auditorium Government College University Lahore April 25-26. The federal minister for food agriculture Sardar Sikandar Hayat Bosan, will be the chief quest at the inaugural session. The theme of the symposium will be the conservation of Mahasheer but scientific papers on all aspects of inland and marine fisheries such as fish nutrition fish diseases, biodiversity and ecology etc would be presented by scientists.
About 300 delegates from all over the country are expected to take part in the symposium.
It is being organised under the joint auspices of Pakistan Fisheries Society and the Government College University Lahore and department of fisheries Punjab a press released of the Pakistan Fisheries Society has said.
The society had earlier arranged two similar symposia at Lahore and Karachi.
According to the society Mahasheer is near extinction in natural habitats due to over fishing changes in water regime and pollution etc.
Through implementation of modern biotechnological techniques enhanced production is possible to ensure sustainability/growth.
Pakistan Fisheries Society said that it has decided to hold this symposium for international research collaboration at the regional and local level which can develop appropriate expertise to introduce new ideas for boosting up fish production through independent mode of production.
