Rawalpindi Nazim Raja Tariq Mehboob Kiani has said the Asian Development Bank (ADB) assured Rs 39 billion assistance for different projects of public welfare in the district. "Rawalpindi has an acute sewerage problem and the mega project would be launched for a permanent solution of this problem. Besides this, a treatment plant would be set up, slaughterhouse would be shifted from the city center and link rods on both sides of Nullah Lai would be set up," the nazim said while addressing senior executives and members of Rawalpindi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) here on Friday.
RCCI president Najam Rehan, Traders Association president Sheikh Siddiq and others spoke on the occasion.
He said the ADB has agreed to provide financial assistance for mega sewerage project in Rawalpindi and it will also provide funds for water treatment plant.
He said slaughterhouse is located in populated area and it will be shifted outside the city and constructed on modern lines. Link roads, he said, would be constructed on the banks of Nullah Lai to address traffic problems in thickly populated areas of downtown.
He apprised business leaders about the upcoming programmes of the government with regard to addressing traffic problems in the city and said the government is well aware of traffic problems and its impact on business community.
