Foreign investment flow on rise in Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that the pace of foreign investment in the province was increasing and a group of investors from Holland would invest more than 10 billion of rupees in Punjab. He was talking to a delegation of investors headed by Chairman MAKRO Group of Holland P.C. Klever here on Saturday, disclosed an official. Chairman Habib Group Ali S. Habib was also present on the occasion.
The Chief Minister said that huge funds were being utilised in the province for infrastructure development and modern communication and other facilities were being ensured. He said that development of private sector was being given prime importance in the economic planning of the government.
"MAKRO Group would set up stores of international standard in Lahore and other cities of Punjab where fresh fruits, vegetables and other essential items would be available to consumers.
The management of these stores would purchase fruits, vegetables and other articles directly from the cultivators, resulting in better returns to the farming community," he added.
Klever said that his investment group would establish modern stores of international standard and would also play an active role in the import of fruits and vegetables. He said Habib Group would be the local partner of his company.
Syed Muzaffar Mehdi Askari, Advisor Habib Group, said that this project of investment in Punjab would ensure provision of essential items at wholesale and retail and the role of middleman would be eliminated.
