The Hong Kong dollar recouped early losses to end higher on Thursday as some players liquidated their long US dollar positions in the afternoon. The currency was trading at 7.7667/68 against the US dollar, off a morning low of 7.7695, firmer than Wednesday's close of 7.7678/80.
"The bias is still for stronger Asian currencies, especially the yuan, which has been gradually appreciating," said a dealer at a local bank. China's yuan closed at 7.8236 per US dollar on Thursday, approaching parity with the Hong Kong dollar.
