Message from Managing Director, Mari Gas Company Limited

08 Dec, 2006

Bolan Joint Venture proudly announces the commencement of development work at its Zarghun Gas Field, located 52 kilometres from Quetta, with the road leading to it traversing around Koh Murdar.
Although only a short distance away from the provincial metropolis, this field lies in a narrow valley, with virtually nothing to support its habitat. Development and operation of Zaghun Gas Field will usher in a new age of prosperity. Also this is the first field in Balochistan, where the gas shall be produced and consumed within the same province.
Mari Gas Company Limited operates the field on behalf of Bolan Joint Venture which has three other partners namely Spud Energy Private Limited, Government Holdings Private Limited and Premier-KUFPEC Pakistan (PKP). Commencing with the seismic survey in 1996, the Joint Venture drilled its 1st well in 1998, followed by another well in 2000. Both of these resulted in successful discovery of gas.
However, it took us quite a while to convince other stakeholders to start the next phase. In this pursuit, we had invaluable encouragement, support and help from His Excellency the Governor of Balochistan. Without that, we may not have been where we stand today. Equally helpful have been the locals of the area, notables and Government functionaries. It has been a wonderful experience to work with them, and we wholeheartedly thank them.
Notwithstanding the fact that such ventures are time-consuming due to many an external factors, we are committed to utilising all our energy and resources in expediting completion of the development work that is now being started, and putting discoveries of gas to commercial use.
Our Joint Venture will be spending on the Zarghun project alone something to the tune of one hundred million US dollars, which comes to Rupees six billion. Besides this Mari Gas is working expeditiously in three other exploration blocks in Balochistan.
This is a reflection of our sharing the national vision of accelerating the pace of development in this province. While seeking continued support from all stakeholders, especially from the government, notables and local population, we hope and pray to Allah Almighty for blessing our sincere efforts with success. While striving for large discoveries, we are committed to putting to use relatively small successes even, not for financial gains but for the greater benefit and glory of the people of Pakistan.
