09 Dec, 2006

Muttahidda Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) on Friday staged a demonstration in front of central secretariat of Majlis Tahaffuz Khatam-i-Nabuwat to protest promulgation of women protection bill (WPB) describing it repugnant to Islam and provision of Holy Koran. More than 200 activists of religious parties and students of religious seminaries took part in the demonstration.
The demonstration was led by Khurshid Abbas Gardezi, Muhammad Ashraf Atique, Qari Abdul Rauf and Asif Mehmood Ikhwani. Participants were carrying placards inscribed with slogans against the women protection bill and present regime.
"We have initiated a drive against General Pervez Musharraf which would end with his departure because it had introduced an unislamic bill," Gardezi said. Participants shouted slogans against the Government. MMA leaders appealed to the opposition parties not to engage themselves with the government for striking a deal.
