09 Dec, 2006

Liquefied Petroleum Gas Distributors Association Pakistan Chairman Muhammad Irfan Khokhar has welcomed the decision of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) to abolish duty on import of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and said it will result in reduction of prices of LPG.
Now the prices of LPG will come down at least by Rs 5 per kg, he said here on Thursday, adding, it will also eliminate the marketing companies' blackmailing tactics. He said that ECC decision to issue directions to Ogra to monitor the LPG rate would put an end to the monopoly of the marketing companies.
The association chairman expressed the hope that the prime minister will also ask the LPG producers, PPL, JJVL, OGDC and Parco to withdraw the price increase of Rs 9203.75 per metric ton made in the recent months and re-fix the base price of Rs 17,000 per metric ton.
