Visa policy relaxed to promote tourism: Senate panel told

The government has relaxed its visa policy to promote tourism in the country and attract foreigners. This was informed in the meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Culture, Sports and Tourism held here on Friday.
The committee appreciated the government efforts to promote tourism under the theme of "Visit Pakistan Year 2007" and directed the Ministry of Tourism to extend maximum facilities to the tourists.
It was also pointed out in the meeting that PTDC motels and hotels need to be refurbished to bring them at par with the international standards. The committee also directed the ministry to constitute a team of senior officials to co-ordinate with the foreign diplomats in Pakistan to make "Visit Pakistan Year 2007" successful.
Secretary Tourism Saleem Gul briefed the committee on the marketing strategy and the calendar for "Visit Pakistan year 2007". He said that the tourism products have been defined and different kinds of activities would be carried out throughout the year. He said that it would reflect the liberal policy of the government for promotion of tourism. Visa policy has also been relaxed and now Pakistan is ahead of many countries in promoting tourism.
