LHC issues notices to SHO Motra

09 Dec, 2006

The Lahore High Court (LHC), while holding contempt proceedings against brick kiln owner Muhammad Arif for making false statement before the court, has directed SHO Motra to produce him before the court along with two detenue in his illegal custody.
The court passed these directions in the contempt of court proceedings against the respondent Muhammad Arif who had made a false statement before another bench of the court pertaining to custody of the detenue. The court had disposed of the petition on his statement on Holy Quran that he did not know the detenue. The petitioner again approached the court and submitted an affidavit of three persons that the respondent had demanded Rs 150,000 for release of the said detenue. They approached the respondent SHO for recovery of the detenue and registration of a criminal case against the accused but he refused to extend any help to them.
The petitioner, therefore, approached the court through contempt of court petition against the respondents with prayer to direct the SHO to produce the detenue and the respondent before the court and set the detenue at liberty.
The court, after hearing the petitioner's counsel at length, issued notices to respondent SHO with directions to produce the detenue.
