Turkey's Dardanelles Strait - a key shipping route - was closed because of fog on Saturday, the Coast Guard said on its website. The strait, which together with the Bosphorus is a major oil shipping route connecting the Black Sea and the Mediterranean, was closed from early Saturday. No reopening time was given.
The Bosphorus was open, despite a crash between two ships which caused no injuries or contamination, a Coast Guard official said. Both straits are often closed in winter due to bad weather, which can cause long delays for tankers.
