Chairman Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association (PHMA) Adil Butt appreciated the Trade Policy 2007-08 and said a well sustained and long-term policy is dire need of the hour to build confidence among garments exporters.
While talking to Business Recorder here he said the government step to continue 6% R&D support on export of garments for one year is appreciable but more concrete steps are needed to combat international competition he added. Positive steps by the government could ensure our presence in the international market, he added.
He highlighted the importance of apparel sector, which not only contributes sizeable share in the country's foreign exchange earnings but also employs around a million of workers.
There are a number of downstream other sectors which are directly and indirectly related with this vibrant sector of the economy. He stressed that only a continued government support will keep the industry moving ahead. Chairman PHMA impressed upon economic managers of the country to devise sustainable long-term polices for apparel sector to enable the stakeholders to work out future strategy for international market.
