The trade policy, which was announced by Commerce Minister Humayum Akhtar Khan, will benefit not only the textile export industry, but also the economy as a whole. This was observed by acting Chairman of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptama), lqbal Ebrahim, said an Aptama press release here on Friday.
Appreciating the trade policy he said he was satisfied that the association's well-researched proposals had largely been accommodated. Apart from addressing long-standing as well as pressing issues of common concern for the exporting and manufacturing sectors, the trade policy aimed at enhancing the foreign trade capacity of the country.
lqbal Ebrahim pointed out that matters that directly affected market access in international trade had been dealt with squarely in the trade policy.
The measures announced would ensure a long-term benefit for the export efforts of Pakistan, he said, adding that areas in which individual exporters faced difficulties had been taken up to be addressed institutionally by the government. He said the steps announced would ensure Pakistan's competitiveness in the global market.
The government had shown resolution to give impetus to Pakistan's international trade by removing constraints, enhancing competitiveness and increasing exposure of Pakistan's products in the international markets, he added.
The acting Chairman of Aptama urged the government to address pending issues in the forthcoming textile policy to overcome the prevailing textile industry crisis so that the industry was enabled to effectively avail measures announced in the trade policy by making further investment to create exportable surplus.-PR
