07 Sep, 2007

A bloody clash triggered over a land dispute in the central Kurram Agency continuing for the last six days between two rival tribes left seven persons dead and 25 injured. The Massozai and Para Chamkani tribes are engaged in bloody gun battle over a piece of land vacated by the Afghan refugees.
According to eye-witnesses both sides are using light and heavy weaponry against each other and as such paralysed the life in the affected areas. Wapda installations, including electric poles and transmission lines have also been damaged due to cross firing and the people without electricity since Wednesday. The local business has come to a standstill, the local people said.
The political administration of the agency has initiated efforts to arrange cease-fire between the two tribes. The administration under territorial responsibility clause of the FCR has arrested over 50 tribesmen of both the tribes and impounded dozens of vehicles and sealed their businesses.
The local Peace Committee and Ulema have also started hectic efforts to make the guns silent and approached elders of the both tribes to find a solution to the problem.
