07 Sep, 2007

The Board of Directors of Citrus Research and Development Company has unanimously elected Mehr Liaqat Hayat Lak as the board chairman. His election was held in the first meeting of the board of directors held here on Thursday with Punjab Agriculture Secretary Fayyaz Bashir, Faisal Munir, Pervaiz Ahmad, Faisal Javaid Ghumman, Daud Ahmad Khan and Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Board Shamoon Sadiq CEO also attending it.
A company's spokesman said that the board also set up a committee made up of Lak and Bashir to look after the company's business. Bashir briefed the board members about the company's objectives and welcomed them to the board of directors. The board thanked the Punjab government's policy and congratulated Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi for showing confidence in the private sector to make decisions for citrus research. Stakeholders unanimously pledged to contribute towards achieving his vision.
The board also decided that all hard working staff would continue working and there should be no uncertainties among dedicated and committed personnel. The government has not privatised citrus research but only given the responsibilities of decision making to stakeholders so that citrus research never suffers because of the existing procedural delays.
The government has given a free hand to the stakeholders to make progress in citrus research from today onwards. This effort will go a long way in promoting demand driven research with benefits to scientists and stakeholders.-PR
