The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has decreased the maximum producer price of liquid petroleum gas (LPG) from Rs 36061 per ton to Rs 34,667 per ton, bringing down producer price of 11.8 kg cylinder by Rs 14-16.
This decision has been taken as a result of the modification in LPG pricing policy approved by the Federal Government to bring more transparency and flexibility for the benefit of both the marketing companies and the consumers.
The Economic Co-ordination Committee of the Cabinet in its meeting on August 29, 2007 had decided that Ogra would thereafter notify monthly LPG producer price on the basis of current month's Contract Price (CP) rather than previous month's CP.
The notification clearly states that for the benefit of the consumers and the marketing companies the LPG producers will have complete flexibility and authority to sell their product at a lower price on commercial considerations and in accordance with market situation. It is expected that reduction in LPG producer price would not only benefit the marketing companies but it would also be passed on to the consumers.
