The European Union urged Pakistan on Monday to respect its own Supreme Court (SC) ruling and allow former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to stay in the country. "In our view, the Supreme Court's view is very clear and should be respected," said Christiane Hohmann, the European Commission's external affairs Spokeswoman.
"If there is any legal case against Nawaz Sharif, he should have the chance to defend himself in a Pakistan court." Pakistan deported Nawaz Sharif to Saudi Arabia on Monday, just hours after he returned from exile hoping to ignite a popular campaign to oust military ruler President Pervez Musharraf.
