'Grow more wheat' drive to commence on October 28

The district government will commence the campaign to "Grow more wheat" on October 28. DCO, Qazi Muhammad Ashfaq at a meeting here on Thursday said that a walk would be held to sensitise local farmers about the need and importance of sowing more wheat, to move towards eventual food autarky and food security for the nation.
The agriculture department officials, farmers and area notables will participate in the walk, which will be held at Mian Channu. It will begin from the agriculture office and end at T Chowk.
EDO Agriculture Nazir Ahmed Bhatti said that our soil is extremely fertile, and it not only helps farmers but country can also be able in food self-sufficiency, and also export food items and value-added products to earn precious foreign exchange. He said the new support price of wheat has been set at Rs 950 per 40kg, and urged farmers to aim for a per acre yield of 50 maunds, which could fetch about Rs 50,000 income in just six months.
