Chinese companies are ready to work in agriculture development projects, like the construction of small dams and farming for the cultivation of floral yields. Sindh government would soon hold a meeting with Korean government authorities for establishing a company on public-private-partnership (PPP) basis to improve irrigation system of the province.
Pakistan, which is importing PAN worth Rs 150 million, can save the foreign exchange to this effect. President Asif Ali Zardari said this while chairing a day-long meeting of Sindh Cabinet at Chief Minister House on Thursday.
Others who attended the meeting included Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Senior Minister Pir Mazhar ul Haq, Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza and other members of the provincial cabinet.
Urging the provincial ministers to work hard and pay special attention to genuine problems of the masses, Zardari directed the water and irrigation department that the water coming from Indus must be monitored and a long-term planning for its consumption be evolved.
He also directed the provincial cabinet to encourage schemes aimed at poverty alleviation, enhancement of agriculture sector, repair and improvement of old irrigation system, construction of small irrigation dams, provision of incentives for industries etc in the province.
Asking for a detail presentation on break-up of land for PPP to develop kutchi abadies, he directed all government departments to have full use of Information Technology and upload their working, performance and progress on the web site. Assuring improvement of Sindh's communication system Zardari said the Hyderabad-Badin Road would be widened while work on various bridges, including Larkana-Khiarpur Bridge, would also be enhanced.
Ordering survey and feasibility report of overhead bridges near Tando Mohammed Khan, Sheikh Birkyo and Mula Katyar, the President directed the revenue department to conduct survey of the land position near and around Keenjher Lake development of which, he said, was essential for the coastal areas.
Teachers training program should continue, as only qualified teachers could deliver result-oriented targets, said Zardari adding that a Master Plan for Book Building under IT project should also be prepared. Terming women an important part of the society, the President said his government would provide them all necessary incentives especially to the midwives and nurses.
Regarding promotion of culture and tourism, Zardari assured that by an early completion of recreational facilities, like Gorakh Hill Station the government would promote the tourism sector. He said roads, police check posts and other recreational facilities would soon be provided at the Station. On the occasion Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and other cabinet members briefed the President on various ongoing developmental projects, like Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Youth Development Program etc.
