The main bridge connecting Korangi Industrial Area with the city, Jam Sadiq Ali Bridge, has spent its life and is in state of shambles, which may collapse any time. The bridge was build during the tenure of former Chief Minister of Sindh, Jam Sadiq Ali, about 40 years ago.
At the time the bridge life was estimated to be around 50 years. However, after lapse of only half of its calculated life, it started decaying and was verbally declared unfit for traffic's use by the then Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) now called city government.
The industrial area has more them 4500 industrial units and large number of heavy trawlers, trucks and other vehicles ply on the bridge every day. The industrialists of the area called for reconstructing the bridge as soon as possible as it was in dilapidated condition.
Former President Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) S. M. Munir and ex chairman Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) Shaikh Manzar Alam have already approached the provincial and city governments for reconstruction of the bridge. But no heed was paid to their request.
Chairman, KATI Shaikh Fazl-e-Jalil said that the bridge is in very shabby condition and urged the government to reconstruct it. He feared that the worn out bridge might cause any eventuality.
