The Lahore High Court (LHC) has suspended the removal order of a contractual assistant treasurer by the Vice Chancellor of the Punjab University (PU) issued notice to the VC. The judge issued this order responding to a petition of Faisal Mumtaz, an assistant treasurer (AT) at PU Gujranwala Campus.
According to the case, Mumtaz was appointed as AT in Hailey College on May 12, 2003. He was transferred to the Gujranwala Campus in 2005 and was extended till January 1, 2008. The VC had also sanctioned his application for confirmation. However, on august 10, the university announced 10 seats of ATs, and Assistant Controllers. University authorities made 27 appointments on regular basis instead of 10 seats.
The respondent authorities, instead of considering him on regular basis on the approval of the VC, not only confirmed him but also removed from services before lapse of his contract.
The VC on September 23 appointed Muhammad Yousaf Bajwa as lecturer in Department of Business Administration, Gujranwala Campus who was removed from service with him. The petitioner said the VC with his discriminatory act, removed him illegally. He therefore prayed to the court that the court should set aside his removal order and issue directive to the VC for his reinstatement.
