Pakistan Sportsmen Welfare Association's Secretary General Manzoor Ali Arif has hailed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)'s Chairman Ijaz Butt for inducting former test cricket Abdul Qadir as Chairman Selection Committee of PCB. Induction of Intikhab Alam, Javed Miandad, Aqib Javed, Salim Altaf and Abdul Qadir in the PCB has been warmly welcomed in the cricket circles.
It is good to see Javed Miandad, the former Pakistan captain and coach, has been appointed Director General of the PCB while Intikhab replaced Geoff Lawson as national coach, he added. Manzoor believes that Ijaz Butt has all the desired credentials to manage the cricket affairs of the country. He has reckoned that a lot has to be done to promote cricket from the grassroots level and a man of the vision of Ijaz Butt could do wonders. Now the ball is in the court of Ijaz Butt, as he has remained actively involved with cricket for nearly half a century now, he added.
The Pakistan cricket is in turmoil because the mismanagement in the PCB during the past few years has brought disrepute to the country. Now he has to handle the grim situation, he added. On paper the cash-rich PCB is giving the impression of working as a corporate body but in practice they have left a lot to be desired. The inconsistent policies have hurt them badly, he said. Ijaz Butt, it is expected, would rise to the occasion as is being widely anticipated, he said.
