China has dismissed a UN report on allegations of widespread torture in the country, accusing those who compiled it of using false information. "It is a pity that some of the committee members responsible for compiling the concluding observations, due to their prejudice towards China... used some fabricated information," foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang said.
"They included a lot of slander, false information, acted unfairly and unobjectively, and we resolutely oppose this," Qin said in a statement on the ministry's website late on Saturday.
The United Nations Committee Against Torture called on China to probe rights abuses and investigate the crushing of the 1989 pro-democracy movement in Tiananmen Square.
