LHC adjourns proceedings against SHO

26 Nov, 2008

The Lahore High Court (LHC) adjourned the proceedings till December 02 as Regional Police Officer (RPO), Jhang, sought time for filling report about the action taken against the SHO police station Langarana Jhang. RPO informed the court that SHO police station Langarana Chaudhry Razaq has been transferred, while an action under Efficiency, Disciplinary Act is under process.
The court had taken this action during the course of proceedings of a petition by Khurram Shahzad against the SHO and contended that he, along with a dozen of others, visited his residence and took his brother Altaf Shahzad away. He moved the court of District and Sessions Judge on October 23 when the police threatened his brother of killing him in a fake encounter.
Despite the court orders, the police did not produce his brother before the court and the court put off the proceedings, stating that it wanted to examine the report sought from the DPO. He approached the LHC for he feared that his brother would be killed soon. The LHC appointed a bailiff, who raided the police station and could not find the missing person.
The court observed despite its orders and earlier directions to the DPO, the SHO did not produce the petitioner's brother. The court further observed the SHO, who had tried to mislead the court, which was an offence and ordered the RPO Jhang to appear in person and explain the delinquency of his subordinate.
