Mubarak elected SCCI president unopposed

Sharafat Ali Mubarak of the Associate Group and Mohammad Ishaq of the Corporate Group were elected unopposed as president and vice president of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI). The newly elected president and vice president were the nominees of the Senator Ilyas Ahmad Bilour-led Businessman Forum (BF).
The announcement of their election was made by the three-member election committee of the chamber comprising Sufi Bashir Ahmad, Amanullah and Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi. Both candidates of the Forum filed their nominations on Monday and Tuesday was for the scrutiny. As the committee was received no other nominations, therefore, they were declared elected as unopposed. The polling for the 16 members of the executive committee was held on November 22, which was marred by the boycott of the rival Businessman Panel. The Forum had swept the elections for the executive committee of both associate and corporate groups while the seats of the associations, towns and women were elected unopposed.
The election of the Sharafat Ali Mubarak, a known leaders of the small leaders, who calls himself a hatiwall is a major change in the affairs of the Sarhad Chamber, which would be headed by a representative of the associate group after a gap of seven years.
In past, Haji Mohammad Haleem Jan and Malik Zahid Hussain of the associate group had headed the chamber. Sharafat Ali Mubarak is a former senior vice president of the chamber and chairman of the Tajir Ittehad, who came to the limelight in the trading community resistance to the distribution of survey forms for the documentation of the economy in the year 2000.
