THE RUPEE: mixed trend

The rupee moved both ways against dollar on the currency market on Saturday in process of trading, money experts said. The rupee gained five paisa against dollar, for buying at 85.90 and rose by three paisa for selling at 85.95, they said.
Relief over Greece caused the euro to enjoy its best weekly performance against the US dollar since January. After days of Greece headlines, market participants next week will turn their focus on US economic data and a European Central Bank monetary policy meeting.
The Greek parliament passed two crucial austerity bills this week, opening the way for international lenders to release a 12-billion-euro ($17 billion) loan instalment that Athens urgently needs to stave off bankruptcy.

The dollar resumed trading at Rs 86.00 and Rs 86.20 on buying and selling counters, respectively. In the wake of fresh buying activity, the dollar moved up and closed at Rs 86.05 and Rs 86.25 as dollar's buying and selling rates, respectively.
Similarly, the British pound improved its worth against the local currency. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 138.30 and Rs 138.70, respectively, as against Rs 138.00 and Rs 139.00 of Friday, the dealers said.
The dollar opened at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.20 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.20 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 138.40 (buying) and Rs 138.50 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 138.40 (buying) and Rs 138.50 (selling).
