Taiwan stocks ease

23 Aug, 2011

Taiwan stocks erased early gains and ended 0.41 percent lower on Monday, pressured by cement counters and construction shares. The main TAIEX index fell 30.37 points to 7,312.59, after opening flat. The cement sub-index was the biggest loser, down 5.2 percent; the construction sub-index dropped 3.08 percent. Contract PC maker Quanta slipped 2.55 percent on worries that Hewlett-Packard Inc's supply chain would be affected if the US firm sells its PC business.
HP's rival Acer jumped 4.68 percent, Asustek rose 3.98 percent. Financial shares edged up 0.17 percent.
