Policeman killed, 17 hurt in explosion on GT Road

One police cop was killed and 17 others including six police personnel and a woman were hurt in a remote-control explosion on GT Road near Gul Bahar Police Station here on Saturday morning. According to police sources, the explosion was carried out when a police mobile shifting prisoners to Mardan was also passing from the venue. However, the prisoners remained unhurt in the incident.
The injured were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) where emergency was also already proclaimed. The explosion also damaged a police van, two private cars and two auto-rickshaws. The injured police personnel have identified as Abdul Jabbar 38 son of Alam Khan, Manzoor Ahmad 26 son of Sahibzada, Roman 29 son of Shakirullah and Said Kalam 25 son of Fazal Karim while the name of the two other injured and lone casualty could not be ascertained.
It was the second consecutive attack on police as on Friday the vehicle of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Banaras Khan was also targeted, but he remained unhurt. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has condemned remote-control bomb attack on police van near Gul Bahar Police Station on GT Road and expressed sorrow and grief over the loss of human lives and properties.
In his condemnation statement, the CM said that through suck terrorist attacks on police, the terrorists wanted to demoralise police personnel. He said that war against terrorism would continue till the complete elimination of terrorists, adding sacrifices of the martyrs of police would not go in waste and the battle to root-out the cancer of extremism would continue.
