Chairman National Assembly's Standing Committee on Commerce, Khurram Dastgir and Kashmala Tariq, an articulate MNA from Pakistan Muslim League Likeminded, Thursday brawled over a three extensions to Principal School of Fashion Design, Lahore, Ms Hinna Tayyaba allegedly in violation of rules.
Kashmala Tariq, who sources said, has differences with the Principal since long, accused the Chairman of the committee of hushing up an inquiry against her for illegal appointment and three extensions. When Kashmala accused Dastgir of hushing up the inquiry against Ms Hina Tayyaba he became furious. "No personal agenda will be allowed at this forum," Khurram said, adding that he did not play any role in disruption of the inquiry. However, Kashmala repeated "you used influence to hush up an inquiry against the Principal."
When Dastgir announced that as Chairman he expunges the word "hush up" Kashmala again angrily retorted "excuse me, I am also a member of Parliament and have the same status. Chairman's role is that of a mediator". She also accused incumbent Secretary Commerce, Zafar Mahmood of playing a role in stopping the inquiry - a task given to the Standing Committee.
Khurram Dastgir proposed to set up one member committee to investigate the affairs of Pakistan School of Fashion Design. She, however, did not accept the proposal and suggested that the committee should consist of at least three members. Chairman agreed to this proposal and constituted the committee under the chairmanship of Kashmala Tariq, giving her the right to select any two members for her inquiry team.
