Peoples Accountability Commission on Floods (PACF) has demanded judicial inquiry of the 'suspicious' breach in Rohri Canal affecting over 38,560 people, 25 villages including Bhalidino Kaka, Saeedabad and Zairpir of tehsil New Saeedabad District Matiyari. Dehs which have been affected are still under the water damaging the 5,000 acres of standing Kharif crops.
This has been disclosed in a 'Situation Report on Rohri Canal Breach' issued on Friday by Peoples Accountability Commission on Floods (PACF). According to the report currently there are 23 villages under water which included Bhalidino Kaka, Saeedabad and Zarpir including Bag Ali Kaka, Sheikh Mohd Kaka, Khuda Bux Kaka, Fakeer Mohd Kaka, Kazi Mod Sedique, Mohd Brohi, Ayub Kaka, Nabi Bux Khaskheli, Mohd Dino Hajano, Raz Ali Rind, Syed Ashraf Shah, Bego Kaka, Mir Jat, Gul Mohd Kaka, Kher Mohd Kaka, Bhaledino Kaka, Darya Khan Hajano, Jamal Hajano, Bakadar Kaka and Outaq Shaukat Jamali.
Relief Department Government of Sindh, Commissioner Hyderabad Office and Provincial Disaster Management authority have provided the relief items but distribution process and eligibility criterion is not clear and transparent as government distributed it on its own without making proper assessment at household level due to the political nepotism.
According to PACF report even Irrigation Department officials have revealed that it was difficult to believe that breach like this can happen because normally the initially breach of 20 feet and sudden expansion to 120 feet was not possible. Sudden outburst of the water with the great sound further creates suspicion that any artificial intrigue was made. Irrigation department officials interviewed for the report were not clear about the very cause of the breach just finally uttered that it was the below out breach that could not be resisted. According to flood forecasting department, Indus was flowing at low level with minimal discharge into the delta where as Rohri canal was observing overflow.-PR
