At least four workers of National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) were arrested when they along with several other workers tried to enter red zone in the limits of Artillery Maidan police station on Monday. According to details, the workers of NCHD, who have been protesting outside Karachi Press Club (KPC) since March 29 against the abrupt suspension of NCHD project across Sindh.
However, the protesters faced stiff resistance from the law enforcers when they tried to enter red zone. The policemen had indiscriminately charged batons and used water cannon to foil the protesters' attempt. Meanwhile, Preedy ASP Ali Asif claimed that the employees of NCHD, who were protesting for the restoration of the development projects, had scuffled with the law enforcers which left no option but to use teargases and water cannon to restrict them entering red zone. He said the police had arrested four workers and registered a case against them in Artillery Maidan police station.
The protesters said the Sindh government had suspended the NCHD projects across the province, leaving 5000 workers of NCHD and their families in hysteria. The protesters said they have been staging sit-in at KPC since March 29 but nobody has so far paid heed on the issue, compelling them to approach CM and Governor for the acceptance of their demands.
