The first Post Graduate Certificate Course in Engineering and Financial Management, jointly organised by the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) and Ghulam Ishaq Khan (GIK) Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, concluded at Wapda Administrative Staff College.
The eight-week course, the first of its kind in Pakistan held at Wapda Administrative Staff College for technical, administrative and financial professionals of all disciplines, aimed at improving their managerial skills. The participants belonging to various organisations of the country were imparted training by a combination of academicians, field engineers and corporate leaders through specialised course modules such as engineering economics, corporate planning, project management, financial management, contract management, technology management, environmental laws and resettlement issues.
Farhan Ahmad, Assistant Manager (Design), NTDC and Zeeshan Fawad, Ministry of Defence secured first and second positions respectively, while Ammar Nazir, Deputy Director (Floods) Water Wing, Wapda and Abdul Majid Jatoi, Assistant Manager (Project Management Unit) Hesco, jointly bagged third position in the course.
Wapda Chairman Shakil Durrani was the chief guest at the graduation of the ceremony, who gave away medals and certificates to the participants. Speaking on the occasion, Wapda Chairman said that infrastructure development was imperative for sustained progress, while engineering management and financial administration played a key role in implementing infrastructure-related projects. He said that Wapda in collaboration with GIK Institute had taken the lead for improving the professional skills essentially required for project managers.
