Doctors of public sector facilities on Monday staged a token boycott for one hour at all government hospitals in protest against the kidnapping of three doctors. The call was given by Pakistan Medical Association Sindh, Peoples Doctors Forum Karachi, Sindh Doctors Welfare Association and Young Doctors Association, Provincial Nursing Association, Sindh Paramedical and Peoples Paramedical Association.
Dr Faisal Iftikhar, Dr Aftab Qureshi and Dr Shabbir Dayo were kidnapped during the last few days. The Out Patient Departments (OPD) of Civil Hospital Karachi, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and Lyari General Hospital Karachi stopped working at 12:00 noon.
Speaking on the occasion, President PIMA, Sindh chapter, Dr Samreena Hashmi harshly criticised the police and the other departments concerned for their poor performance as kidnappings for ransom and other crimes were on the rise in Sindh province. If kidnapped doctors were not recovered, they would register an FIR against the administration and officials concerned, she warned.
