The Lahore High Court on Tuesday issued notice to federal government, for October 10, in a petition seeking directions, to reserve funds for Thar coal project in the coming budget. A bar member, Chaudhry Maqsood Gujjar, contended in his petition that Pakistan was facing energy crisis severely, which had affected industrial, and economic activities.
He said that Thar coal project was initiated to deal with the energy crisis and the project team had successfully experiment the gasification from coal well. He stated that the government was not providing funds for the Thar coal project and this project could be closed if the funds were not provided. He, therefore, prayed to the court to issue directions for reserving funds of Rs 5 billion for the project in the coming budget.
