The legacy they leave behind?

23 May, 2012

In the chequered history of Pakistan, in the arena of politics, influence and rule over the State, there are many personalities, nay, characters, who have played key roles in the running of the country, either as political heads of the government or military generals as dictators or covert supporters of a the so-called civilian rule. These individuals, all of them, have left behind their respective legacy, mostly sordid and bad, on their own account and personal conduct.
The present government, while announcing the grant of a three-year service extension to General Kayani as the CoAS, PM has been asserting that when the tenure of the ruling-PPP government comes to and end in 2013,so shall be the final retirement of General Kayani and departure of the Supreme Court Chief Justice, Iftikahr Chaudhry, in tandem. This is a conclusion, in no uncertain terms, that the current ruling dispensation believes has the tacit support of the other key institutions, (or heads of these institutions, in respective individual capacities?) to complete its chaotic tenure.
