Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Environment Wajid Ali Khan has said that biodiversity plays an important and basic role in maintaining the eco-system which is essential for both human beings and other living things. He was addressing a function in connection with the 'World Biodiversity Day' at Pakistan Forest Institute Peshawar on Tuesday.
Vice Chancellor, University of Peshawar, Dr Qibla Ayaz, Secretary Environment Syed Said Badshah Bukhari, Chief Conservator Wildlife Syed Mubarak Ali Shah, Director General Environment Protection Agency, Dr Bashir and a large of students and teachers were also present on this occasion.
The Provincial Minister said that biodiversity was the basic source of food, not only for human-beings but for the all living things. "Biodiversity is also important from aesthetic and recreation point of view of the natural resources." He added "Allah has created this universe with a balanced biodiversity but the human-beings distorted this balance only for their self interest and comfort as a result we face the problems of global warming, climate change, melting of glaciers, floods avalanche and other problems."
He stressed the need for collective wisdom and awareness to restore the biodiversity. He urged the people to keep their surrounding clean and take measures for the protection and promotion of natural resources. Dr Qibla Ayaz, Syed Said Badshah Bukhari, Syed Mubarak Ali Shah and Dr Bashir also spoke on this occasion. While the students of different schools and colleges delivered speeches and presented tableaus regarding biodiversity. The Minister distributed awards among the position holders on this occasion.
