After remaining open for thirteen days, Pakistan-China border via Khunjerab Pass in Hunza will be closed for traffic from tonight onwards.
The border was opened in order to evacuate containers loaded with Chinese goods of Pakistani businessmen stranded in Kashgar.
Last week, Prime Minister Advisor on Commerce and Investment, Abdul Razak Dawood announced that trade with China through Khunjerab Pass has resumed temporarily.
He said, the opening of border was a longstanding demand of the businessmen, particularly from Gilgit Baltistan region, which remained closed due to Covid-19. "The team at Commerce Ministry must be appreciated for their hard work in resolving this issue in consultation with Chinese authorities and other stakeholders," he added.
It may be mentioned that the border has been closed since the outbreak of COVID-19 epidemic but both countries had given permission for its reopening from 29th July to 10th August.
