President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday announced that local bodies' elections would be held before general elections. Presiding over a meeting of Pakistan People's Party's core committee at Bilawal House in Karachi, he directed his party leadership to prepare for elections.
In the meeting President Zardari directed his party leadership to hold municipal elections before general elections. He also directed authorities concerned to bring an ordinance for the local bodies' elections, if needed.
During the meeting, President Zardari was briefed about preparations of municipal elections. The president was told that an ordinance would be tabled before holding local bodies' elections.
The President also formed a two-member committee comprising Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Law Minister Ayaz Soomro that would consult PPP's coalition partners to finalise the ordinance.
