US Consul General Brian Heath has said that about 95,000 students in more than 85 countries have so far participated in the US-funded English Access Program. He said this while speaking at the closing ceremony of a two-year US government-funded English Access Micro-scholarship Program, which was organised by iEarn Pakistan at a local hotel, here on Thursday.
Brian Heath said: "Education is the key to success. Through the access programme we are pleased to play a role in helping smart and motivated Pakistani students learn valuable skills." He said that iEarn Pakistan had launched this cohort of the scholarship programme in September 2012. He said the US operated the world's largest English Access Micro-scholarship Program in Pakistan, teaching English to 5,000 students of 14 to 18 years age group from underprivileged backgrounds.
"The students learn English by participating in after-school classes and intensive summer learning activities, leading to better jobs and educational opportunities," he said. Since its inception in 2004, he said 95,000 students in more than 85 countries had so far participated in the programme. Brian Heath also congratulated 1,700 graduates of the two-year Access Micro-scholarship Program.
