Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar has said that the allegation of Allama Tahirul Qadri that at the time of taking over by this government, the total debt was Rs 6.5 trillion and during the last fourteen months the government has added Rs 5.5 trillion in public debt is absolutely incorrect and baseless. In an official statement issued here on Saturday, he said that when the government of PML-N took over, the total public debt was Rs 14.5 trillion and during the last one year, there has been no significant increase in the overall public debt.
He further said that the government is working on a well-planned comprehensive strategy to shift expensive debt into a cheaper debt in order to reduce the overall public liabilities.
