KMC asked to remove encroachments from SWDs

Taking serious notice of absence of employees in certain areas of the city during his surprise visit for overseeing rains emergency preventive measures, Sindh Minister for Information and Local Government Sharjeel Innam Memon on Saturday directed Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Administrator to prepare lists of absentees.
He also directed that all encroachments from storm-water drains (SWDs) must be removed as per the directives of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah. The minister deplored that encroachers had converted the metropolis into a backward town by ruining its storm-water drainage system. Encroachers had almost occupied 94 percent of sewage and storm water drainage system while just four per cent remained free from encroachments, he added.
The minister warned all KMC and DMCs employees to be punctual in their duties, or else strict disciplinary action would be taken against them. The minister paid a surprise visit to different parts of the city, including Clifton, DHA, Sharea Faisal, Saddar, Empress Market, M A Jinnah Road, Lines Area, Old Exhibition, Guru Mandir, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Gulshan-e Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Rashid Minhas Road, Ayesha Manzil, Water Pump, Korangi and Landhi.
