Taiwan stocks rose 0.8 percent on Wednesday as a stimulus package to boost the stock market lifted investor sentiment, paced by gains in brokerage shares including Yuanta Financial. As of 0130 GMT, the main TAIEX index had climbed to 9,524.55, tracking gains in other regional bourses and extending its 0.7 percent rise in the previous session.
Yuanta Financial, parent of the island's biggest brokerages, added 2.6 percent and smaller rival Capital Securities rose 2 percent, while overall financial shares were up 1 percent. Taiwan's financial regulator said on Tuesday it will loosen the daily trading limit for shares to 10 percent from 7 percent as part of broader efforts to fuel trading in local stocks.
