Poultry Industry on Tuesday called for a tax-free import of poultry machinery and loans on same lines as announced for textile machinery. Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) former Chairman Abdul Basit said, Pakistan's poultry sector had the potential to get major chunk out of three trillion dollar Halal Food trade, provided this sector was patronised and supported the way the government had done for increasing textile exports.
Abdul Basit said, the textile industry could not prosper until it had a strong backing of agriculture sector that provided raw material for this exporting sector of the country.
There was also a dire need of value addition and processing to increase exports of food items and poultry was the only sector that could help achieve this target, as it could be exported to whole world after due processing and packaging, he maintained. He added that Pakistani food products did not need any kind of certification as Pakistan produced only Halal and nothing else.
