As many as 28 candidates submitted their nomination papers for upcoming Senate elections on 11 seats from Sindh. The candidates, who submitted their papers to the provincial Election Commission office on Thursday and Friday, are from four political parties:- Pakistan People's Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). As many as 12 candidates were from PPP, 14 from MQM, two from PML-F and one from PML-N.
According to ECP, six candidates who filed nomination papers on general seats were Sarfaraz Rajar and Dost Ali Jaisar of PPP, Syed Zafar Ali Shah aka Allah Dino from PML-N, Muhammad Bux from PML-F and Babar Ghouri of MQM, while Shama Arif Mithani of PPP submitted papers on reserved seat for women.
Out of total 28 candidates for 11 Senate's seats from Sindh, 18 have filed papers on general seats, four on seat reserved for women, two on technocrat seats. As per the ECP schedule, the scrutiny of the papers of candidates would be carried out on February 19 and 20. The candidates may resister complaints/objections on 23 and 24 February, while they can withdraw the nomination papers on 28 February. As per new election schedule, polling would be held on March 5.
