Lawyers to launch movement for Prime Minister's resignation

01 Jul, 2017

The lawyers fraternity is going to launch a movement against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to press him for resignation in the wake of Panama case with a maiden meeting of the National Action Committee convened for next week.
Speaking at a joint press conference on Friday, the leaders of Supreme Court Bar Association and Lahore High Court Bar Association announced that the National Action Committee would hold its first meeting next week to devise a strategy for the movement. They said the prime minister has lost justification to stick to his office after the verdict issued by the Supreme Court in the Panama case.
They said 'confessional' statement of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar was enough to hold the Sharif family guilty of money laundering. They said the government's ministers have been trying to scandalize the judiciary and also launched a propaganda campaign against the members of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) holding inquiry against the Sharif family in money laundering allegations.
Secretary SCBA Aftab Bajwa said the lawyers would protect the judiciary against every vilification campaign and deal the perpetrators with iron hands. He said if Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and other ministers did not shed their propaganda campaign, the Bar would ban their entry to the Supreme Court. President LHCBA Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali also condemned the alleged torture on MNA Jamshed Dasti in jail. He said the Bar would help Dasti in getting justice.
